A richly deserved thrashing

...for a NYT article. Men's life expectancy is increasing; good-bye to the "merry widow!" Dr. Helen is having none of it: "In this pathetic excuse for an article, the theme appears to be that because men are living longer, this might put a cramp in women's lifestyles."

Was it Dorothy Parker who said: "This is not a book to be taken lightly. It is to be hurled against the wall with great force"? This article would serve well for pitching practice. Read Joan Didion's "Year of Magical Thinking," and then we'll talk about bereavement. "Merry widow," indeed.

Yes shrinkette, the New York Times and this author do indeed deserve a thrashing. So do most of the other authors writing on gendered matters in our newspapers and speaking on gendered matters in our electronic media.

We live in a society which is, at present, openly proud of its misandry, of its contempt for and discrimination against all males. Worse, anyone complaining is openly called anti-female. Plus, some people, of both sexes, demand that no reasonable person could ever care about what happens to the male population.

We will not arrive at a free and fair society without targeting contempt for males. We will not arrive at a free and fair society without changing the central meme in all healthcare to one which focuses on the best interests of all. The current meme of focusing on the best interests of the white middle & upper class female poisons our society.

The female focus scares our females and destroys our males. That is a threat to us all.

Add in the problem of some women's groups using real hate --funded by government--to gain their position and the situation becomes not only dangerous to adults, but to children.

At present there are at least two groups arguing that all lone fathers are abusers. These groups get support from government sources, including money from PBS. This concept (of all fathers are abusive)is gaining ground and thus INCREASING the number of abused children. (Lone fathers have a FAR better track record in keeping abuse out of their parenting. This has nothing to do with male or female, being a function of statistical filtering in that it is far far harder to become a lone father than a lone mother.)

This form of stinking thinking is so common that few bother to look at it.

We, all of us, must start down the long path of ending contempt for males and trouncing heavily upon the ideas of those supporting hate.

Contempt for one must be seen as contempt for all.

Sorry, ladies. If you want the fun of early widowhood, you'll have to slip something in his casserole.
